On Easter Monday, a man disguises himself as a scruffy and smeared woman in torn clothing. Accompanied by a gypsy and a group of Cracovians, he roams the streets in search of donations, and greases the women he encounters with soot.

In Krakow, as in other cities on Easter, food is still sacred, Easter eggs are painted, palms are carried to churches and water is doused on Easter Monday.

Another holiday attraction in Krakow is the so-called Rękawka, which takes place on the Tuesday after Easter Monday. It is a festival located on the Mound of Krak. Originally, the festival referred to the Slavic tradition of springtime Dziady, but now Rękawka is a festivity with numerous artistic performances, competitions, as well as toy stalls and various small food outlets.
